Amidst their ongoing injury crisis, Tottenham have made the surprising decision not to promote youth players into the first team, instead opting to tough it out and grind away with the remaining fit first-team players.
It’s certainly a brave choice, but their lack of fit centre backs right now is concerning, and they aren’t doing themselves any favours with allowing Alfie Dorrington to leave on loan, with reports from Pete O’Rourke indicating that the 20-year-old is set to join Salford City.
Recalled from Scottish top-flight side Aberdeen earlier this month, some were thinking that Spurs had brought back the young Englishman to finally give him an opportunity in the senior squad, particularly with injuries to Van der Ven, Davies, and Porro.
Though he didn’t exactly star while up in Scotland, the youngster added valuable top-flight experience to his CV, and with that experience could certainly have played a backup role for Spurs while they navigate their current rocky waters.
Instead though, it seems Dorrington is to drop three divisions down to Salford, who find themselves in the middle of a title race against Cambridge and Bromley. Though the club are performing well, they have conceded the most goals of any side in the top seven, and Dorrington is presumably being added to the side in a bid to address this.

An England international at the U19 level, Dorrington certainly has a bright future ahead of him, but has seen his opportunity to flourish at a senior level limited, having made just 30 appearances for Aberdeen across one and a half seasons there.
A move to Salford will earn him regular game time and may finally allow him to take a significant leap in his development, thrusting him into consideration for a place in the Spurs side upon his return.
