Spurs to Battle with PL Giants in Bid to Sign Leicester Prodigy

Spurs Amongst Raft of Premier League Clubs Interested in Leicester Starlet

There is very little to be positive about at Tottenham Hotspur right now - progress under Thomas Frank is minimal at best, the side has won just two of their last eight games, and despite some false dawns, they sit stubbornly mid-table, occupying 11th.

Clearly, a fresh face is needed, perhaps a fresh perspective or some youthful exuberance in an attempt to lift the squad, as well as the fans. Fortunately for Spurs, the transfer window is right around the corner, providing the perfect opportunity to do so.

Enter Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga, formerly the second-youngest player in Premier League history, and in all aspects appearing to be the Foxes' next great export.

Who is Jeremy Monga?

Aged just 16, Monga has been making waves throughout his short professional career thus far. Making his Premier League debut for Leicester last season at just 15, he was so young that Premier League legislation ruled that he was not allowed to wear Leicester’s front-of-shirt betting sponsor, and would not be allowed to until he turned 18.

Capable of playing on both wings, Monga has already shown glimpses of his incredible potential in his 12 Championship appearances this season, notching one goal and one assist, despite starting just five times in that period.

With Tottenham adhering to an increased emphasis on signing future stars, a model very similar to that of Chelsea, Monga fits the bill perfectly. With Championship experience already under his belt, the teenager would develop quickly, avoiding the typical developmental path of League One and League Two football early in his career.

However, his young age and relative depth of experience at just 16 mean that Spurs are far from the only side showing interest. Both Manchester clubs are allegedly circling, while Chelsea are also in the discussion, never a side to turn down the opportunity to sign an up-and-coming star.

Other sides tracking the youngster include Liverpool and Newcastle, meaning that if Tottenham are to get their hands on the outstanding young prospect, it will be far from an easy ride. Unable to offer the same ludicrous finances as their rivals, Spurs will have to be diligent with their approach, likely including a number of future clauses and incentives in a bid to sign him.

No doubt Monga will be back in the Premier League sooner rather than later - his obvious talent and incredibly high ceiling mean that if Leicester can’t earn promotion this season, he will likely move on in a bid to reach the highest level of football as soon as possible. The only question is, which club will be the one to lure him in?
