Who Is The Best Player in the Premier League for Each Position in Football?

As we know there are many world class and amazing players in the topflight of English football, but who are the best players in each position within the Premier League. We will be looking into each position and naming who the best player is for every position.

Goalkeeper – David Raya

While there are many of other choices such as Donnarumma at Manchester City or Alisson at Liverpool, it is hard to look past Raya especially over the last few seasons. While Donnarumma had a phenomenal season last season with PSG, he hasn’t yet reached those levels again. Raya is something else in the Prem with 2 consecutive golden glove awards and currently joint top this season as he looks to make it 3. However, it isn’t just his shot stopping ability that makes him the best, but also his distribution. His ability with his feet is one of the best in the league and this and his shot stopping is why he’s my choice for best keeper.

Left Back – Marc Cucurella

One of the most disliked players by rivals in the league, however, even they can’t disagree with his ability. One of the most versatile and reliable players in the league. He is very strong in the 1 vs 1 defending that a fullback needs and add onto this his ability to invert into the midfield and get forward and you have one of the best fullbacks in the world. He is often the make making a lot happen for Chelsea on the left as he goes forward making space and opportunities. While Calafiori is also up there, he hasn’t yet his the same level of dominance on that left side as Cucurella.

Centre Back – Gabriel

There are a few options for this position such as Saliba and Van Dijk. However, Gabriel is a level slightly higher than these 2. His defensive ability is second to none and this is shown by how little goals Arsenal conceded and even went a month where they almost didn’t face a shot on target. However, it isn’t just his defending that got him a spot as the best defender in the league, it also what he offers going forward. His arial threat is arguably the best in the league especially from corners and set pieces. His importance to Arsenal is clear as without him they don’t look half the team.

Right Back – Reece James

Like left back we see a fight between a Chelsea and Arsenal player and once again the Chelsea player just edges it out on top. No one ever doubted the ability of the blues captain; it was just his injury history that was used as a reason for him to not be considered as one of the best. Now he has been injury free for over a year we can all see his ability solid in defence, great going forward and one of the best passers in the league. He is arguably one of the most complete players in the league and not just one of the best right backs, but one of the best players.

Defensive Midfielder – Moises Caicedo

Does much really need to be said about him? The level that this man is playing take him to one of the single best midfielders in the world. One of the hardest players to get past anywhere on the pitch, someone who can win you the ball back with interceptions or tackles to either save you from conceding or help you score. He one of if not the best defensive midfielder in the world currently. If anyone needed more proof about his ability and importance to Chelsea, look at the games without him, 1 win in 3 games without their defensive midfielder. His is the rock that holds them.

Centre Midfielder – Declan Rice

Starting to feel like a repetitive list with just Arsenal and Chelsea players, however, this one no one can argue about. You can’t talk about Caicedo without Rice and these 2 are the best midfielders in the league by some distance. Defending Rice has you, driving forward Rice has you, set pieces, yep Rice can do it. Complete is the main word you can describe Rice as. He is the most important player for Arsenal as he keeps them ticking both defensively and offensively. He is definitely the best central midfielder in the league.

Attacking Midfielder – Cole Palmer

Right, this is the final Chelsea player on this list. However, once again very hard to argue about how good he is. While people can use the fact he struggled in 2025, he is still shown his class above anyone else and with many other players in his position struggling to find form such as Odegaard and Wirtz, he can still hold that position as the best attacking midfielder in the league. Creatively he is one of the best, amazing passing rage, great vision and accuracy when passing, add into this his finishing ability being up there with the best striker, and you can see why he is the best attacking mid in the league.

Left Winger – Doku

One of the harder picks on the list as of recent years the left has been a bit strapped for talent compared to the other positions. However, Doku this season has taken his ability to a new level and has made a very good shout for him being the best left winger in the league. His raw talent was never up for debate, one of the best dribblers in the league and mixed with his speed a very dangerous winger, however, his output was always questioned. This season his output has shot up, and he looks much more dangerous when cutting in and running at a man. He deserves this spot as the best left winger.

Right Winger – Mohamed Salah

This is the side of the wing with a lot of talent with names such as Saka, Foden and Neto missing out. However, while he has struggled this season, it can’t be disagreed that when he finds his form again, he will be the best winger in the league and one of the best players. After 47 goals contributions last season, he has started a bit slow this season but will likely find some form soon and find some of that output he has last season, and this will definitely make him the best right winger in the league. As even with a poor start to the season he still has 7 goal contributions more than the other names that would be here. Therefore, while this season hasn’t been great, he is still the best winger.

Striker – Haaland

The easiest one here by a mile. One of the positions that many teams got this summer and were hoping would find some form even close to the Norwegian machine however, none of them have. With the 2 Swedish strikers joining top clubs many people though the race for the golden boot would be a very close and high scoring competitions, however, with both of their goal tallies combined, they don’t even begin to lace the boots of Haaland this season. With 17 goals and 3 assists in 16 league games, he is back to his best and will be looking to break his own record that he set in his first season.

They are in my opinion the best players for each position, did I miss anyone or would you change anyone?
