Ahead of Scotland’s next fixtures in the March international break, Steve Clarke has been speaking to Robert Grieve at the Scottish Sun. When asked about the situation with Harvey Barnes, he said: “We both have each other’s phone numbers”, and that he would have to “wait and see how it pans out”.

Grieve also noted that the SFA are looking to arrange a friendly vs an African team at St James Park in March, a perfect setting for the Newcastle man to make a potential debut for the National team. This would be in addition to the rumoured friendly against Japan as they go on their European tour in preparation for next summers World Cup.
Clarke also spoke about the importance of taking young players in his 26-man squad, using Lennon Miller as an example, noting he would consider taking him even without ample gametime at Udinese. If so, we could see a similar situation to the 2020 Euros, when Billy Gilmour was brought for experience but being brought into the starting lineup, and winning MOTM against England.

It remains to be seen if Harvey Barnes will be in Scotland’s World Cup squad come June, but for the fans that do want him, there is definitely a growing momentum around the story.
