This Sunday’s only Championship game sees Watford make the trip up to face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. This result could come back to haunt either team depending on the final league position they are in come the final day of the season.
The Blades has one of the worst Premier League campaigns to date last season, ending with a record of 3W-28L-7D and conceding 105 goals making a goal difference of -69. They look to improve things this season in the Championship though and they seem like they’re doing okay so far.
Opening weekend saw Sheffield United take all three points back with them after a trip to Preston North End, a 0-2 away win the result. They could not emulate that in their next two games unfortunately as they both ended in draws. 2-2 against Queens Park Rangers and 1-1 against Norwich, tough fixtures so early on in the season.
Playoff positions will be the main focus of the season for Chris Wilder’s side as they were recently knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the second round at the hands of League One side Barnsley. Sheffield have scored nine goals in their last five thanks to Gustavo Hamer’s efforts, the only player that came out of last season looking good. However, Watford have bagged 15 goals in their last five so Sheffield definitely need to be defensively solid in this one.
Watford left it late in their opening match versus fellow London club Millwall but a 90th minute winner from Mileta Rajovic ensured that Watford won 2-3 and left with all three points. Since that victory, Waford have gone on to pick up three more, one in the Carabao Cup where they trashed MK Dons 5-0 and two in the Championship, 2-1 and 2-0 wins versus Derby and Plymouth respectively. That leaves them sat in second place in the league with only Sunderland above them due to goal difference. A frustrating season befell them last year, but they look like they could do much better than their 15th place finish under former player, now turned manager, Tom Cleverly.
The Hornets have had been in great goalscoring form as of late with an incredible 15 goals from their last five matches. That tally has made their matches this season average 2.67 goals. Scoring that many goals has obviously contributed to their fantastic unbeaten streak where by Watford have not lost in their last six games. Something that they will aim to extend in this game.
Our betting experts have gone with Watford Double Chance. Watford are in excellent form at the moment which is why we can see them picking up three points from this match but Sheffield United have massively improved on their Premier League performances last season. We can also see them winning. This is why we have gone with the double chance option as a draw seems closer.
