After the international break ends, club football returns, and we’re continuing with our expert betting tips.
We’re taking a look at the Bundesliga, where Edin Terzic’s Borussia Dortmund side take on Alexander Ballin’s St. Pauli
It’s been a disappointing start to the season for both teams, mostly due to both teams' defensive failures.
St. Pauli would’ve been looking to replicate their form from the 2. Bundesliga last year, while Dortmund look a far cry from the UCL finalists they were last season.
Borussia Dortmund Predicted Line-up - Gregor Kobel; Julian Ryerson, Nico Schlotterbeck, Waldemar Anton, Yan Couto; Pascal Gross, Emre Can; Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Julian Brandt, Maximilian Beier; Serhou Guirassy
While Dortmund have had a disappointing start to the season, there’s no doubting the quality their squad possesses. They’ve scored a respectable 12 goals so far, it’s the 11 they’ve conceded that makes for concerning reading.
That being said, they’re only a few points off the top spots in the table, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they start to climb the standings should they win here.
Guirassy has scored three so far this season, and he’ll be looking to add to his tally here.
St. Pauli Predicted Line-up - Nikola Vasilj; Hauke Wahl, Eric Smith, Karol Mets; Manolis Saliakas, Jackson Irvine, Robert Wagner, Philipp Treu; Oldapo Afolayan, Elis Saad; Johannes Eggestein
While St. Pauli while still be recovering from the devastating loss of Fabian Hurzeler, they’ve taken some time to adjust to the demands of the Bundesliga this season.
They’re yet to register a win this season, a trend I think will continue.
Elias Saad will be vital, he’s looked their most dangerous asset in front of goal this season.
The two sides have met just six times since 2010. Of these fixtures, Borussia Dortmund have won five, whilst St. Pauli have won just one.
These teams haven’t drawn at all in recent history, which reflects the attacking nature we’d expect this game to be played in.
14th July 2016 - Dortmund 3-2 St. Pauli - Friendly
8th September 2015 - St. Pauli 1-2 Dortmund - Friendly
28th October 2014 - St. Pauli 0-3 Dortmund - DFB Pokal
19th February 2011 - Dortmund 2-0 St. Pauli - Bundesliga
25th September 2010 - St. Paulo 1-3 Dortmund - Bundesliga
Given both teams poor defensive capabilities, we’d expect goals in this fixture, especially in the first half.
Overall, Dortmund’s quality should prove too much for St. Pauli, and will see them grab the win in this match.
We think overall the best value tip is Dortmund to win and over 1.5 first half goals, backed up by our research.
Odds of 17/10 on QuinnBet mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £27 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Borussia Dortmund 3-1 St. Pauli
Despite this being a tougher fixture than they’d expect, Dortmund will get through and win this high scoring contest.
Whilst Dortmund look nowhere near title contenders, we’ve got a tip for who’s going to win the Bundesliga.
